Winter is the time when every cell of the body seems to dry out.
Your eyes sting and burn, your nose is crusty, your ears itch and your skin feels like sand paper. It doesn’t seem to matter how much you drink.
And the reason is simple – we are the most fluid beings on the planet and when the air is dry our precious fluids leave our body in an attempt to equalise the air-to-body fluid balance. Isn’t nature amazing?
So how do we remedy this natural process?
Surely if we drink enough water we will stay ahead of the fluid loss. Alas it is not that simple.
Increasing your water intake is definitely part of the solution, so too is applying moisturiser to maintain the skins physical barrier.
However, minerals are the key to maintaining our cellular health. Sodium and potassium are the electrolyte minerals that help maintain our fluid balance by locking and unlocking our cells to allow water to travel in and out.
Also vitamin E and omega 3 & 6 work together to maintain cell structure and integrity.
So in those cold-dry winter months even when you don’t feel thirsty reach for one or two extra glasses of water.
Bump up your essential fats by sprinkling some nuts and hemp seeds on your avocado and your cells will love you for it!
